The first object of study in my Masterpieces of Architecture class is the Great Pyramid, built in Giza for the pharaoh Khufu. No matter how hard I try to pay attention, I can’t see words like “Giza,” “Abydos,” or “Horus” without thinking of the movie Stargate, in which the eponymous device was found during a dig in Giza (see above). This is going to be a problem until we move onto the next architectural structure. I keep humming the theme music.
